Tommy James Johnson Celebration of Life Paradise Cove Cocoa Beach, FL

By

Cocoa Beach, Florida (11-08-14) Thomas James Johnson departed this earth October 5, 2014. Tom had been diagnosed with throat cancer in August. He spent 59 days in the hospital and 3 days in hospice.  Tom was at peace when he passed. He played his final drum solo on Tupaware drums for the nurses.

Tom had several signature songs over the years that he would sing,  but it is Bill Withers’ classic. “Ain’t No Sunshine” that he truly loved.

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone

It’s not warm when she’s away

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone

She always gone too long anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she’s gone

Wonder if she’s gone to stay

Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone

This house just ain’t no home anytime she goes away

Tom lived in Brevard County, Florida where he became known as Tommy, the best rock drummer in the county. Tom’s final band, Berna and the Bernouts, Berna Austin  began putting a benefit together to help with Tom’s medical expenses in August.  As Tom’s condition worsened Berna’s determination would become stronger.  Soon all of Brevard County knew of Tom’s condition and began to help put the benefit together. Fellow musicians, fans and friends donated their time and services. Berna continued to spear head the event at a fever pace. After Tom passed the focus became more of a Celebration of Life. Tom wanted to live, have a party with food, drink, good music and friends. Celebrate Life!  Rock On My Brother!
