IOWA CITY, Iowa (October 4,2013) — Scope Productions on the University of Iowa campus brought 90’s power pop and alternative rock band Third Eye Blind to the Iowa Memorial Union main lounge after relocating from the Pentacrest lawn due to weather. The multi-platinum album selling and Billboard Top 10 performing group had absolutely no trouble filling the IMU to maximum occupancy with a waiting line down the street and around the corner for the FREE homecoming event.
Third Eye Blind came equipped for an outdoor concert and the show stage lighting did suffer from lack of space and the sound was a little off, but I gotta give the crew and Scope credit for pulling off an epic switcheroo and giving the audience a pretty solid show nonetheless. Stephen Jenkins (lead vocals-guitar-founding member), delivered the crowd–and this guy– the perfect dose of 90’s nostalgia. Reminded me of my college days, fitting considering we were surrounded by students and student athletes including the Iowa Mens Basketball team. I just feel sorry for the folks that had to stand behind them . . .
East coast indie rock band Basic Vacation from NYC and Philly had the opening set. They looked and sounded fantastic, look out for much more from them coming soon. Looks like they’re heading up north to Canada for a few shows then back down the East coast making their way back over to Chicago on Oct. 18th and Minneapolis on the 19th.
