IOWA CITY, Iowa (4.25.13) — Mat Kearney and Emily Hearn performed at the Iowa Memorial Union Ballroom on the University of Iowa campus Thursday night brought to us by Scope Productions.  Emily Kearn, a southern beauty from Georgia, warmed up the crowd.  As part of her set we heard a down tempo rendition of Frou Frou’s Let Go and Coldplay’s The Scientist.  She performed a number of her original tunes including Like Ships Need the Sea  and introduced a new tune about driving with a cute story about the drive up from Georgia to the show before wooing the crowd into a little audience participation.

Then Mat Kearney, Oregon born now Nashville native brought us his singer-songwriter folk rock best.  An enthusiastic crowd was treated to his stories of life and living including his top hit Ships in the Night.  Mat originally majored in literature at California State, Chico on a soccer scholarship but found his passion for writing was better suited for music after grabbing a roommates’s guitar, the rest is history . . . in the making!

To get an idea of his sound, click play below to hear is most recent album Young Love, and check out the images of Mat and Emily from the show!  It was a blast!
