April Verch performed at Legion Arts CSPS Hall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Fresh off a tour in Belgium (so fresh they were concerned about how their instruments weathered the flight) April Verch and gang performed a spot-on set last night. The Canadian fiddler and step dancer, known for performing for a world stage during the opening of the 2010 Winter Olympics, charmed us on a much smaller and personal stage at CSPS. Accompanied by Cody Walters and Hayes Griffin, the April Verch Band performed a classic tune that April’s father wrote to her mother, and new songs from their forthcoming album release. Their sound blends Celtic, jazz, folk and bluegrass influences with an element of “sweetness” that’s always at the forefront, even when playing a song inspired by zombies. Maybe you had to be there . . .
